INTERSECTIONAL WONDER WOMXN ART SHOW

The Second Annual Intersectional Wonder Womxn Art Show Vol. 2 fundraiser benefiting Safe Harbor is planned for Thursday, May 23 from 6 to 8:30 PM at Studio Two Three located at 3300 W. Clay St., Richmond, Va. 23230 in Scott's Addition. Taking the reins for the planning committee this year will be Chelsea Higgs Wise of Style Weekly’s Top 40 under 40 fame and Ngiste Abebe, founder and co-director of New Leaders Council Virginia. These two amazing womxn are civically engaged and service-oriented changemakers in the Richmond area. “We’re excited to build on this creatively inclusive platform for the second annual Intersectional Wonder Womxn Art Show Vol. 2,” Ngiste says. Chelsea adds, “We look forward to uniting different spaces, expanding this womxn-led table and pulling up several more seats in the name of our truth.”

The theme for the show will be announced soon, with branding from a local Richmond artist. The art show will be accepting artist submissions until April 8th. Artists can learn more about the submission process at www.wonderwomxnart.show. With each art sale, the 20% commission goes directly to Safe Harbor. Safe Harbor is a Richmond nonprofit organization serving all populations struggling in violent domestic situations, providing personalized assistance including shelter and legal help, usually to womxn and children who are threatened and unsafe. Safe Harbor works to serve human trafficking and sexual assault survivors without discrimination. All are welcome, including the LGTBQ community and speakers of languages other than English. Sylvia Mallory and Kortenay Gardiner will be involved as Co-chairs Emeritus, inviting new leadership to infuse new points of view into the project. Kortenay Gardiner, former co-chair said, “I cannot imagine this fundraiser for Safe Harbor in better hands. Last year was incredible, but I anticipate reaching a larger audience and attracting more artists with this second installment.” Sylvia Mallory explained, “The art show grows richer and more powerful as we include voices from leaders that aren’t our own. I’m so excited to experience this next Intersectional Wonder Womxn Art Show!”
Volunteer Call: We are looking for an inclusive and passionate group of volunteers to help Team Wonder Womxn. We’ll need people who have experience in event planning, fundraising, marketing (digital, social, print), and those who can distribute materials--bonus if you love art!
